| 0:59.0 | the shortest version of it in English could be, |
| 1:04.0 | for wisdom, be tranquil. |
| 1:08.0 | If you want to become wise, cultivate tranquility. |
| 1:14.1 | In fact, the Therabad and path of meditation is sometimes called samata vipasana in Pali. |
| 1:23.8 | In English, that would be tranquility and insight. |
| 1:29.5 | And part of the function of developing concentration is to have a good amount of |
| 1:35.7 | tranquility so that awareness can do some deep inner work. |
| 1:43.6 | That's hard for awareness to do if the awareness is hijacked |
| 1:47.1 | by our reactivity, by our emotions, by our preferences and likes and dislikes, by the stories that |
| 1:56.4 | the mind spins out. And so, tranquility is important. And there are three different kinds of |
| 2:07.6 | tranquility. There's tranquility of the body, tranquility of the mind, and then separate from those two, there's tranquility of mindfulness, |
| 2:21.5 | tranquility of awareness itself. And sometimes, if there's can cultivate some degree of |
| 2:31.7 | tranquility of body, it supports tranquility of the mind. |
| 2:35.6 | Some tranquility of the mind supports tranquility of awareness. |
| 2:40.2 | But sometimes that's not possible. |
