What's up everyone? Welcome back to the epic gardening podcast and I know it's been a while but this is a solo

Ep it's a solo episode back with just me and I know I didn't get an episode out yesterday, but there's two coming at you today, so check your podcast feed for that.

And today's episode we're talking about, we're riffing about an idea that I'm going to be pursuing in 2019.

That would be what I'm calling the Apocalypse Grow Challenge.

Well, what I'm going to do is I'm going to try to live off of 100%

of my own food in the month of May. So from May 1st to May 31st, I will be going primal.

I'll be surviving off of only food that I can either grow, forage, fish, or barter for and there are some specific

rules to each of those. So growing, I am allowed to grow on my own land and if need be I suppose I would allow myself to grow on other

people's land although I'm going to try to do it on my own property to showcase

that you can do it without having to you know grow on other people's property

now the fishing I'm allowed to spearfish and I'm allowed to rod and reel surf fish

so I don't expect that's going to be a major part of my process because

number one I'm not that good at fishing and number two this is a challenge mostly about

growing food so what I'm gonna try to do is stick as closely as I can to that,

but I do think the fishing is going to help with some of the protein and fat requirements

that I would like to be consuming during that month. Now, the foraging, there's not a whole lot of abundant foraging here in San Diego and that's where I'm limiting myself as far as where I'm allowed to forage but I do know that I can eat Nopales which is a cactus pad.

There are prickly pears here in the region.

There are other things that I'll be able to forge definitely

some wild herb type plants. And I'm to have to educate myself on foraging as well but again

probably not going to be the main source of my food and then bartering is interesting.

Bartering is going to be reserved for only people who have produced what I'm

bartering for themselves. So I can't go barter for Domino's Pizza,
