Anyone down for some fava beans in a nice canty?

I don't know about you, but I'm not.

I'm not down for that, but I am down to grow some fava beans.

And there's a lot of reasons why.

Not only because you can eat them as food, of course,

but hopefully not with another organ or piece of protein

that you may recognize from that initial quote.

Let's hope not.

But it's also great as a cover crop.

I know a couple people that I've even done tours with

on the Epic Gardening YouTube channel

that they've grown fava beans almost exclusively

for the cover crop.

And so it's really a fantastic crop.

They actually look quite beautiful to me as well.

Very interesting one and quite simple to grow.

So quick history on them.

Fava beans known as Visia Faba.

They are legumes that love cool weather.

In the UK they'll be called broad beans.
