We are going to discuss a plant that I love hearing my grandma say and that's Bougainvia or my grandma would call it Bougainbilia, she's Filipino, and it's just an amazing, amazing word.

So how do you grow it?

Can you grow it in containers?

Answer is, yes you can, so let's talk about it. I grew up with a

Bougainvia plant in my backyard in the side yard and it was just so

interesting to me because I hadn't quite seen a plant like that before and it does stick out to me even though my history with plants doesn't really extend back into my youth.

I really got into them in my early 20s.

For some reason, the Boganvilla that really just stands out might be the way that the leaves and the

flowers appear might not who knows well how do we grow it and specifically how do we

grow it in pots because it can get quite insane if you grow it in the ground when you grow it in pots because it can get quite insane if you grow it in the ground.

When you grow it in a pot or in the ground it needs about six hours of sun a day.

You get a nice amount of flowering this way.

If it doesn't get a lot of sun, the flowering will be

lackluster, it will be slower, the plant will look thin, it'll look leggy, it will

stretch out a little bit, so I wouldn't recommend that. It is a heat-loving plant, really is. It likes a hot summer. It likes hot temperatures in general.

It's hardy from zones 9b plus. So you can stretch it if you use some of the techniques

that we've talked about here on the podcast

where you are pushing your zone,

crafting a higher effective zone in a microclimate,

you can do that.
