Hi friends! This episode is about the groundbreaking new study on 100 g protein and 'no upper limit' on muscle protein synthesis with scientist Dr. Jorn Trommelen! Dr. Trommelen obtained his PhD in Muscle Metabolism at Maastricht University, at one of the leading laboratories in that field. He now works at Maastricht University as Assistant Professor.
His research focuses on protein ingestion to optimize post-exercise muscle protein synthesis. In addition, he investigates carbohydrate metabolism during and after exercise. Jorn won several awards for his research. See the Study HERE

0:12.9 | We have one of my dream guests joining us today, Dr. Yorne Tomelian. He actually is the author of that incredible paradigm shifting paper on the |
0:25.5 | ingestion of a hundred grams of protein having no upper limit on muscle protein synthesis. So |
0:31.6 | his paper basically changed the entire way that we look at protein ingestion before his research, everyone had this |
0:40.9 | common belief that you maximize your opportunity from building muscle when you have 20 grams |
0:47.9 | of protein and all the protein you consume after that is basically oxidized, burned, or wasted. And his research showed that the body continues to trigger muscle protein synthesis and these anabolic processes for hours and hours after you eat a meal, especially if it has 100 grams of protein. |
1:07.0 | It was one of my favorite papers that came out in December and I've done several episodes |
1:11.6 | just breaking down the exact details of the paper. And I was so thrilled to have yarn Dr. |
1:19.3 | Tomelian join us on the podcast today. We get to talk, of course, about his paper and how |
1:24.5 | revolutionary it was in the space and how it basically makes things very simple |
1:30.3 | for people who want to optimize their protein nutrition and their resistant training. |
1:35.4 | Instead of having to stress about protein timing and protein distribution, all you have to really |
1:42.5 | focus on is how much protein you're getting in the day |
1:45.5 | we also talk about his opinion on the protein recommendations whether this protein |
1:50.4 | distribution edges out total protein for the day or not and his thoughts on losing muscle |
1:57.4 | mass during intermittent fasting and how much protein you should consume if you are |
2:02.5 | doing fat loss. So many of my favorite topics on the episode today. And that was so wonderful to get |
2:09.1 | to talk to someone who is also obsessed with protein and an optimized protein intake. So Dr. |
2:16.0 | Tremelian earned his MSC in nutrition and health and then |
2:20.1 | obtained his PhD in muscle metabolism at Mastricht University, one of the leading labs in that field. |
2:26.7 | He currently works at that university as an assistant professor. And his research focuses on |
