My Note: Gremlins is one the first two podcasts I ever recorded. It has remained a listener favorite for years. The other podcast is titles "When John Wayne Went to Harvard". Gremlins is a little old and worn, but its a good story nonetheless Gremlins arrived long before the 1984 smash hit movie "Gremlins", although their nature was the same- troublesome, impish, and often mean little gnomes that created problems for anyone who came in contact with them. 0:45.9	Many of you may remember the 1984 American horror comedy called Gremlins, produced by
0:50.9	Stephen Spielberg, directed by Joe Dante, and released by Warner Brothers.
0:55.8	The film is about a young man who receives a strange creature called a Maguai as a pet,
1:01.2	which then spawns other creatures who transform into small destructive evil monsters.
1:06.8	The film stars Zach Galigan and Phoebe Cates, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo, the main Maguai character.
1:15.0	Gremlins was a huge commercial success.
1:18.0	But what many of you may not know is that the Gremlin myth goes back to World War II.
1:24.0	They were first discovered by RIF pilots with the photographic reconnaissance units
1:28.0	who flew unarmed spitfires and mosquitoes at great heights
1:32.0	on photographic missions over enemy territory.
1:35.6	Their presence caused great concern, so much so that an alert order was sent to all
1:40.9	R.A.F. units. It was in the form of verse, which was published in
1:45.2	R. A. F. bulletins, and often sung to a familiar tune. It went like this.
1:50.4	This is the tale of the Gremlands as told by the PRU at Benson and Wick and
1:57.6	St. E. Val and believe me you slobs it's true. When you're seven miles up in the heavens, that's a hell of a lonely spot and it's 50
2:05.8	degrees below zero, which isn't exactly hot.
2:09.9	When you're frozen blue like your spitfire and you're scared to mosquito pink when you're
2:14.4	thousands of miles from nowhere and there's nothing below but the drink.
