Summary

Today, I analyze Trump’s first day in office in general and the executive orders specifically. On the one hand, most of the orders are not yet enduring and we still have to cross a number of hurdles. But on the other hand, the willingness to get rid of things like birthright citizenship demonstrates that the sky is the limit in terms of the mandate. We need to think much bigger. There is no reason why Trump can’t use his unprecedented bully pulpit and veto threat to get more out of Congress. It also shows that we don’t need to accept liberal policies from this administration. Trump is willing to deliver what we demand, so why back down? 1:01.2	substance, 42 executive orders, they range in terms of their magnitude or certitude of policy
1:09.1	change, but a lot of good things to discuss today, and I want to
1:13.0	celebrate that. I want to capture that optimism, but I also at the same time want to remind you
1:19.0	that nothing has fundamentally changed about the long-term concerns we have about what ultimately undermines the success of even a better
1:31.8	Republican administration.
1:33.0	We've been here and done most of this the first day and week of 2017.
1:38.9	Same amazing optimism.
1:40.5	Same amazing change.
1:41.4	I know there's more discipline, more forethought, more planning.
1:45.6	And then there's reasons why we fail.
1:49.2	So I'm not here today to prejudge failure or to poo-poo the success from yesterday.
