Welcome to the Bulldog Podcast. I'm Charlie Sykes. It is Thursday and of course we are still

sorting through the fallout from Tuesday's elections and speculating about whether the

midterm environment might have changed. But one of the most interesting developments over

the last several weeks, at least interesting to me, has been the emergence of a third party or a

third movement, the forward party. And so joining me on the podcast today to talk about this,

Governor Christine Todd Whitman, former governor of the state of New Jersey and Andrew Yang,

former Democratic presidential candidate, they are the co-chairs of forward this new party. So first

of all, Governor Andrew, thank you so much for joining me today. My pleasure. And with

therefore, us actually, who are co-chairs. Okay. So well, we have two co-chairs, at least on the

podcast today. So I guess, look, you've got a lot of attention for this. And I think it's fair

to say that there has been a lot of skepticism and there's been a lot of criticism. And there are

a lot of questions about what you are up to. You all wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington post

talking about this as a viable alternative explaining that while most third parties fail,

you don't think yours will. So let's start with that. The case you're making for why the forward

party will not suffer the fate of virtually every other third party that we've seen in American

political history. Who wants to go first? I'll take a shot at it because there are a lot of

numbers in there, Charlie. So the fact is right now, the appetite for a third party has literally

never been higher. 50% of Americans self-identify as independence. 62% won a third party.

And I'm sure most of the listeners to the bulwark have been despairing about what the heck is

happened to common sense leadership, to legislators you can come across the island work together.

And I'm going to tell you all, it's getting worse, not better. You have to look in the mirror and

say, okay, we subscribe to the bulwark. We like Charlie. We like Reason. And you look up and you see
