We were reading a fairly long, longish section on the birthday of Sri Ramakrishna.

But we were reading much further along on page 191 and Sri Ramakrishna is talking about to the Vaishnava Goswami

on the festive occasion, and people belonging to different schools of thought, different traditions.

So there was a Vedantist who came in earlier. Then there's the Vaishnava Goswami who's the devotee of Krishna.

And you notice, in each case, Sri Ramakrishna does two things.

Encourage the person along his or her own line of development, their own tradition.

But also make certain corrections. For example, he would always push people not to be narrow.

So, the Vaishnava, he says that the only way is to chant the name of God,

and for him God is only Krishna. And Sri Ramakrishna does two things there.

One is, he says, it's not just chanting the name of God. It has to be on a firm ethical foundation.
