Summary

In the beginning, Gorjana Co-Founders Gorjana Reidel and Jason Griffin Reidel had nothing to lose. To hear Jason describe it, he was unemployable and Gorjana loved creating unique jewelry that all their friends and family loved. So they took the plunge. Those early days were tough but they led with intuition and a bit of ignorance (their words) because as they tell it, "they figured they could do it better than everyone else". Now, all these years later, they continue to connect with their community in ways that have humbled them and their story has evolved to an online presence, 7 stores, and countless customers.

0:21.1	We took the lunch. We took the plunge.
0:22.5	We didn't have jobs.
0:25.4	I'm highly unemployable, so I'm late to everything I do.
0:30.8	I'm not very compliant person.
0:33.1	And so we did take the plunge.
0:35.1	I always say, though, one of the things that we had a severe advantage of at the time was we didn't have very much.
0:41.8	And I know that sounds weird what I'm saying, but we didn't have very much risk at that point.
0:45.7	And I think that when people have developed careers and they have jobs and they have a certain lifestyle that comes with that,
0:52.7	I can't even imagine how hard it must be to then transition to take that plunge.
0:57.0	We didn't have very much.
0:58.0	We were broke.
0:59.0	So we were barely surviving.
1:01.0	You know, we were driving around a car with no car insurance.
1:04.0	We didn't have medical insurance.
1:05.0	We were barely paying rent.
1:06.0	We had our electricity turned off a couple times.
1:08.0	So for us, it just didn't seem, it didn't seem that risky.
