Milius Sergievich began to settle down to his new job in the Central Committee with

Gusto, working 12 to 15 hours a day.

But there were problems that he saw that made him really concerned.

The main issue was the pushback he received whenever he tried to come up with different solutions

to problems plaguing the Soviet Union.

As Gorbachev puts it in his memoirs, quote,

In the beginning, my active participation in the activities of the Central Committee's

Secretariat and my discussion of certain problems were met with misgivings by my colleagues.
