Just when you thought shit couldn't get any weirder, the GOP started eating their own.

In what will go down in history as the shortest House speaker term, Kevin McCarthy was booted out of his precariously assembled speaker seat by none other than Florida man, Matt Gates, who just one

year earlier was under investigation for sex trafficking, illicit drug use, and sex with a minor,

in addition to a slew of nefarious deeds that may yet

come back to haunt the far-right congressman. It is also cemented Gates' status as the most

hated member of Congress, and that's saying a lot in a party where Lauren Bobert and Marjorie

Taylor Green are members in good standing.

McCarthy was ousted on Tuesday from his seat by eight members of his own party, aided by Democrats,

happy to watch the California representative drown in a mess of his own making. And it made McCarthy

the first speaker to be removed from office.

The coup was orchestrated and led by Gates after McCarthy worked with Democrats to pass a

last-ditch effort to prevent a federal shutdown. After his ouster, McCarthy told colleagues he would

not seek the speakership when the new vote is called, bringing an end to his brief but tumultuous rise.

It also leaves California with diminished influence in Congress.
