Ukraine crisis and the presidential contest for 2024. The Republicans about to amount

the stage in Milwaukee to debate and I welcome Josh Rogan, writing global opinions for

the Washington Post in a conversation with former governor of New Jersey Chris Christie,

who's traveled to Ukraine and met with President Zelensky and is articulate about the responsibility

of the next president of the United States. Josh, a very good evening to Chris Christie

and Mike Pence have both been to chief during conflict to my knowledge. Mr. Christie answers

the question, what's in it for the United States? Is it adequate in your opinion what he says?

Good evening to you. Good evening. Well, you know, what I was impressed

by was the fact that Chris Christie, like Mike Pence, decided to take time off the campaign

trail and go to Kiev and not just meet with the officials there, but he traveled to towns

like Buche, where mass atrocities were committed and he talked to victims and local leaders.

And he took a valuable time and a little bit of risk in doing that. And when he got back,

my main question was why? Why would you do that? Especially in this environment where

the Republican Party that he's seeking to court is really deeply split on the issue of

the Russia-Ukraine war. There's Donald Trump and Vibic Ramaswamy and on Tuesdays and Thursdays

around the Santos, who say, we got to pull back our aid there. And then you've got the

Nikki Haley, Ace Hutchinson sort of Mike Pence, Chris Christie, part of the party, which is

adamant that actually this isn't our national interest. And we have to help the Ukrainians

beat back the Russian invasion, not just for them, but for us and for

deterring a possible war against China because of the Taiwan. And so yeah, I think that maybe zero

minds were changed when Chris Christie came back and reiterated his previous position that we
