Google's expected to unveil a new line of pixel phones in just a few minutes at its annual made by Google event.

Users also watching for some more AI featured announcements.

For today's tech, our Steve Kovacs at the event in Brooklyn digging into the state of AI hardware.

Hey there, Carl. Yeah, we kind of know what's at stake here with smartphones these days.

And obviously, Google is going to incorporate Gemini AI into this new device.

As far as what specific features beyond that, it's going to have.

We'll wait to see in a few minutes.

But also, Carl speaks to the AI hardware play.

We've been seeing so many fits and starts through this.

We've seen Microsoft

try with the co-pilot PCs that really failed to get out of the gate after the marquee feature

recall had some privacy concerns and they since had to scale that back. We also saw Apple's failure

with Apple intelligence to push iPhone sales. And then we've seen some startups try stuff

like the humane AI pin that went belly up. And then we've seen some startups try stuff like the Humane AI pin that went

belly up. And then recently, Amazon bought a company called BAI, which is another one of those

listening devices that kind of transcribes everything you do through artificial intelligence.

So we'll see what Google has to play here and whether or not it can have a new or different take on artificial intelligence hardware.

But so far, so much of the activity and growth in artificial intelligence is happening on the software layer, on the app layer.

You don't need a special hardware device, for example, to use chat GPT or Gemini or any of those other chatbots. So we have yet to see a

real breakout hardware product. At the same time, some accessories going out there. Meta has

had some success with those Rayban glasses, but we have not seen a breakout standalone product yet.
