Summary

Every day, you should feel overwhelmed. The real question is: What are we going to be overwhelmed by? We can either be overwhelmed by shame, guilt, powerlessness (and so on) … or we can be overwhelmed by the goodness of God.

Key Scriptures:

+ Psalm 23:6 - “Surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life.”

+ Psalm 27:13 - “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

Welcome back to the Brilliant Perspectives podcast. I'm your host, J. Lynn Bowden, here

0:07.4

with you for another episode of Learning, Powered by the Heart. You know, I've heard

0:13.0

it said that what you think about God is the most important thought you'll ever have.

0:18.5

And I like to think of it this way. If I believe that God is only happy to be with me when

0:24.3

my behavior is perfect, that I'm probably going to find myself bombarded with thoughts

0:29.4

of being unworthy when I don't get things right. But if I believe that God is delighted

0:35.6

to walk with me, to patiently show me his ways, and to lovingly pick me up when I fall,

0:42.3

then those negative thoughts don't stand a chance against my identity in Christ. Because

0:48.1

what we believe about God is exactly what we're going to look for in our own lives. So let

0:54.8

me ask you this. What do you believe about the goodness of God? Let's dive in today as

1:01.6

grand breaks down what it means to experience the glory of God's goodness. Did you realize

1:11.1

that every day you should feel overwhelmed? The real question is, what are we going to

1:18.2

be overwhelmed by? We can either be overwhelmed by our circumstances or shame or guilt or

1:27.7

powerlessness and so on, or we can be overwhelmed by the goodness of God. And we get to choose.

1:36.8

The fruit of goodness is about looking after someone's welfare, acting with honor, being

1:42.1

favorable towards someone, blessing them, lifting them up, giving them a divine advantage. And

1:49.2

that's exactly how God plans to be with you. He's in your life for your welfare, your blessing,

1:57.2

and he gives you his divine advantage, full of his glorious goodness towards you.

2:04.9

When Moses asked to see the glory of the Lord, I think it's in Exodus chapter 33,

2:11.5

God answered him in verse 19 by saying, I will make all of my goodness past before you.

2:21.8

And that goodness was going to be so overwhelming that Moses' human frame would not have been able

2:31.1

to survive it. The glory of God's goodness was so amazing that Moses faced Sean and everyone saw
