Summary

It was the relationship between God and Moses that first gave us the revelation that glory and goodness are bound together in the heart of God. An expectation of His goodness is the hallmark of every disciple, because goodness is present in all that He does. What would it look like for you to encounter the incomparable goodness of God?

Key Scripture:

+ Exodus 33:18-19. Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you…

Welcome back to the Brilliant Perspectives podcast. I'm your host, Jalen Bowden, and this

0:07.3

month we're talking all about the astonishing goodness of God. It's the kind of goodness

0:13.1

that completely defies our sense of logic. We can't access it that way. But when we do

0:19.1

connect with his goodness, we inevitably find ourselves changed. So today, we're taking

0:26.0

notes from an encounter that Moses had with God in the Old Testament. Because how much

0:31.4

more goodness and glory can we now expect to experience with God as new creations in

0:37.6

Christ? Let's go ahead and dive in with Graham. It was the relationship between God and

0:47.5

Moses, that first gave us the revelation that glory and goodness were bound together

0:56.2

in the heart of God. Exocentric 3, 18. Moses said, I pray you show me your glory. And God

1:04.8

said to him, I myself will make all my goodness past before you. That would be a lot of goodness.

1:13.3

So the Lord said, you can't see my face for no man can see me and live. This was in a

1:20.1

visitation or culture. It's not because there's any kind of threat attached to it. It's just

1:26.3

that the presence of God is so blindingly brilliant, it would incinerate anybody if they got

1:33.0

in front of God in their natural state. You know, when Jesus comes back and those who

1:37.8

go up in the air to meet him, they're going to be changed. Otherwise, they would arrive

1:42.1

in heaven like a burnt crisp. So he'd be a real burnt offering right there. No man can see

1:52.6

my face and live. So find it fascinating that God is saying, my goodness is so powerful,

1:58.9

I'm going to have to protect you for it while you're in that state. Then I'll take my

2:03.9

hand away and you can see my back, but my face shall not be seen. So Moses has an

2:11.5

encounter with goodness that was so powerful. It made his face shine with such a radiance

2:21.5

that in public he had to live with a veil over his face. Encounters like that, so incredible.

2:29.1

They border on fantasy almost. That's the thing for me about the gospel. It is such astonishing
