You'd think that a microphone and the speaker were too different or even opposite things since you speak into a microphone and

then the sound comes out of a speaker.

In fact, they're practically identical.

Both are transducers.

It's just a matter of which way the signal flows.

If you want to test that out sometime, take a pair of headphones and plug them into
