Hello everybody and welcome to this week's episode of Trek Politics. I'm Mary Trump,

here with my friend and co-host Bob SESCA. Hey Bob, what is up for us this week? Okay, Mary, spoilers ahead, first of all.

This week we're talking about The Enemy Within from early in season one, written by Richard

Matheson, directed by Leo Penn, one of my all-time favorite episodes of the original series,

while surveying Alpha-177, A geological technician injures himself while also

being coated with a mysterious yellow powder that we later learn has flummoxed the enterprises

transporters. Moments later, Scotty beams up Captain Kirk, but the malfunctioning transporter

splits him into two separate versions of himself. One version of Kirk is

smart and compassionate, while the other Captain Kirk is a shrieking rapist. Meanwhile, the rest of the

survey team, including Sulu, is left behind on Alpha-177 due to the transporter malfunction as

temperatures on the planet drop rapidly, adding urgency to the crisis.

The evil rapist Kirk gets hammered on Sari and Brandy and rapes Yoman Janus Rand in a rather shocking scene,

while the good Kirk tries to simultaneously solve the transporter problem,

experiment with an indigenous dog creature that's also been split into, investigate the rape of Yoman Rand, rescue Sulu

and the survey team before they freeze to death and capture evil rapist Kirk, all while suffering

from persistent brain fog. It's a harrowing transporter malfunction episode

with some wonderfully over-the-top Shatner acting in there too, Mary.

Shatner has got a Shatner.
