Recently, the professional snowboarder Austin Smith created quite a stir when he posted a video

of a prototype of a snowboard binding that rotated a bit.

Now, I personally had never seen such a thing, but some high-level snowboarders chimed in

and said that they had been wondering about a design like that for a really long time.

So I thought that was really interesting

because while we've seen certain developments

across snowboard bindings these days,

we really hadn't seen anything like this.

And so I reached out to Austin,

asked him to come on Gear 30,

to tell us about the idea

and his prototyping process, what he learned throughout the

testing process, and importantly, whether or not he thinks this is promising. And I asked him to

predict whether he thinks we'll be seeing a development like this coming on to the market in the coming

years.
