I love writing instruments.

I love a nice pen in my hand to write with.

That writing instrument is an extension of me, at least when it's in my hand, because it is the means by which I'm conveying my thoughts on paper.

It reaches beyond my thoughts and extends it to where others can read it.

When you come to the Word of God, one of the great pictures of the Holy Spirit is that he is,

and I say this very reverently, God's writing instrument.

Specifically, he is the finger of God.

What is a finger?

A finger is something which reaches out from a person,

which reaches beyond, which connects with others.

Well, when you come to the Old and the New Testament, you see this typology, this beautiful picture. Now, God is not a man. God became a man in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ,

but God is not a man. God made man. And yet God is using this symbolism so that every man can

understand because every person listening to me to tell you understands what a finger is.

Every listener understands what it is to hold a writing utensil in your fingers, in your hands,

and to convey thoughts with that. Let's begin with a verse today in 2 Corinthians chapter 3.

Speaking of believers, Paul writes in verse 2, ye are our epistle written in our hearts known

and read of all men. I love that verse. Think of this. Here's a man who wrote a lot of epistles.
