Isaiah chapter 53, verse 10.

Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him.

He has put him to grief.

When his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring.

He shall prolong his days.

The will of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.

What a verse.

So this chapter is talking about Jesus.

It's a prophecy of His coming, some of the most famous verses in Isaiah, verses 4 through

6, about how Jesus has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, been pierced for our transgressions,

crushed for our iniquities, how we like sheep have gone astray, we've turned everyone to his own way,

and the Lord has laid on him, the iniquity of us all.

And that's the truth that verse 10 then puts an exclamation point on.

It's the Lord who laid on his son the iniquity of us all.

Verse 10 says it was the will of the Lord to crush him that God ordained the crucifixion of his son.

Just that phrase is mind-boggling and it's mystery.

Because we know that God is perfect, God is holy, God is the author of everything good, there is no evil in God, no sin in God, yet he's sovereignly ordained.

The most evil, sinful act in all of human history.

The murder of his own son at the hands of sinful men and women.

You see the mystery here, God's sovereignty over the cross, God's sovereignty over the death of his son, God's sovereignty over

the murder and crucifixion of his perfect son, and it all being the will of God to crush him,
