| 0:45.8 | in Proverbs chapter 19 that has widespread ramifications for us. It's Proverbs 19 verse 21. |
| 0:54.8 | It says, many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. |
| 1:04.4 | Okay, so there is a contrast going on here. It's a contrast between a human being who is planning |
| 1:10.7 | and making plans to achieve certain things in life or to reach certain goals. |
| 1:16.4 | And on the other side is the Lord who has his purposes that he is carrying out through history. |
| 1:25.3 | And I don't hear this verse saying it's a bad thing to plan. I think what it's doing is it's |
| 1:32.4 | giving us a mindset through which to think about our planning. You see, he's saying many are the |
| 1:39.5 | plans that we might make up, but we need to always remember it is the purpose of the Lord |
| 1:46.9 | that will stand. And there's many applications to this truth. First off is that God has purposes |
| 1:55.8 | in the world. This idea that God somehow set the world into motion and it just lets it run the |
| 2:01.9 | way that it will run. That is not a biblical concept based on verses just like this. It is the |
| 2:08.4 | purpose of the Lord that's going to stand in everyday life and in history overall. He is accomplishing |
| 2:16.3 | things according to his will. And we need to be humble before that truth and understand it as a |
| 2:24.0 | good thing and a thing that is bringing about the very best that can be done. But we also need to |
| 2:30.8 | understand that as we are making plans, even when we're making those plans prayerfully and seeking |
