Summary

When things disrupt your life, how are you prone to respond? What comes out of you when you are squeezed? As we continue our series, a Critical Christmas, Rich Bartel teaches us about the story of Mary and how she responded when God disrupted her life.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

-When God comes in and disrupts your life, how do you respond?

-Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a simple, ordinary woman in need of a savior just like us.

-Humility isn’t self-denigration, but rather an honest self-appraisal.

-Mary responds with humility.

-Mary acknowledged who her Master was and she humbly and gladly responded to His plan for her life.

-Mary was submitted to God’s Word.

-Mary embodied the truths Scripture calls us to live by.

-You will never meet a mature, kind, discerning, wise, and loving Christian who hasn’t spent time reading, knowing, and meditating on God’s Word.

-Mary responds with worship.

-Life isn’t a matter of trying to not be shaken, but rather, what comes out of you when you are shaken.

A few years ago I made a pretty significant life transition. I had kind of parachuted out of a lifestyle of sport and football and decided to move to Waco, Texas, and thought that I would kind of take my next best step in life. And so I thought I was going to become an entrepreneur. And so I did what every aspiring entrepreneur does. I went to Common Grounds a lot, drink a lot of coffee and write a books. And I was really in my hustle game, man. I had million-dollar dreams, $5 work ethic,

and he says this to me, he says, hey man, he says, that football thing that you did was cute once. He says, why don't you get into a real battle and come join me in this ministry? And those truths, that's exactly what he said to me, and that was two years ago now. And so, you know, I've been in vocational ministry here for a couple years. And I would tell

you that since coming on staff, it's been easily one of the hardest things that I've ever done in my life. And that sounds really even just silly to say that. It sounds like a gross overstatement. It's like, man, rich, have you done anything hard in your life before? And I would tell you, yes, man, I've experienced a lot of hardship in my life.

I've done hard things.

1:43.3

But this thing right here is uniquely different.

It challenges in ways in me that I've experienced a lot of hardship in my life. I've done hard things. But this thing right here is uniquely different.
