Summary

In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Genesis 6–11 and Moses 8 and return to one of the most familiar stories in scripture, not to focus on the storm, but to see the heart of God in the middle of it. This lesson invites us to read the flood through cross vision and notice the mercy woven throughout the chapter. God grieves, God provides an ark with room, God gives light in the darkness, and God remembers Noah when the waters feel like they are prevailing. If you are in a season where you feel like you are treading water and wondering when rest will come, this episode is for you. Hi there. Welcome to Don't Miss This, a scripture study podcast with Dave Butler and Grace Freeman. Each week, we point out things in the scriptures that we love and think you don't want to miss. Thanks for listening. Hi, I'm Dave Butler. And I'm Grace Freeman. Welcome to Don't Miss this. A weekly scripture study class. You guys, we're on another good one. I think we can start every single lesson like that. Noah and the Ark.

0:22.6

Oh. Good.

0:23.6

I was hoping there'd be a clap or something like that.

0:24.6

Now, while we start this one, which this is, I actually, I think all kids love this lesson,

0:31.6

Noah and the Ark.

0:32.6

And you know what I just sort of thinking of?

0:34.6

Remember the Nativity Boy that's like a classic pot? Oh, this is,

0:38.5

it's like a classic. It's a classic. It just is one of the most well-known stories. And I really

0:44.5

hope that after today, um, you remember it for the best parts. The animals are really cool.

0:50.6

The flood is a little scary, but there are some great lessons in here about the heart of God

0:55.5

and some encouragement and hope for people who feel like the floods are prevailing. This is a chapter

1:03.3

to read if you just feel like I am drowning in something right now. And it's just so encouraging,

1:09.2

so hopeful. Initially, God might be seen as

1:13.7

malicious, and I think you'll see how gracious and good and kind he is in this chapter. And so we're

1:20.1

really excited. But it's been a couple of weeks since we've had this, and I realize we should have

1:24.1

added an Enoch part onto the timeline, our Bible timeline, but we cannot do that now. You can draw it on if you want. But we have two timeline pieces that you're going to add on. If you don't know, we have a free timeline where you can keep track of the story of the Old Testament. If you're a teacher, that's awesome. Or you just want to put it up or print it out and see and just, oh, that's the whole story of the book. It's really helpful. So we have this boat one and then the Tower of Babel that come right after it so you can put those on. So right now we have the world, which is the creation, then a tree which represents Eden, and then we'll add the boat and the tower right after it. And why is it so fun to think about

2:01.6

going through the whole entire year and just adding one little thing as you go? Right. So great.

2:08.3

There. Hopefully you can, I don't know if I'm holding that at a good angle, everybody, but

2:14.3

use your imagination for, yeah, good if you can't see.

2:26.5

Okay, should we jump in? Yes. We're going to be in Genesis chapter six. That's kind of where the story is. It also is going to be in Moses chapter eight, but let's jump into Genesis.

2:32.3

We're going to live mostly in the Genesis chapters.

2:36.6

There's something we want to talk about first, which is just this idea. I think when people talk
