Summary

In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman jump into Abraham’s story in Abraham 1 and Genesis 12–17 and start building a picture of God as a God of promises. The stars become the symbol for this week, a reminder that the Lord’s goodness is multiplying, personal, and still true every time you look up at the night sky. They begin with Abraham’s rescue on the altar and the tender way Jehovah introduces Himself: “My name is Jehovah.” From there, the lesson becomes an introduction to who God is, what He’s like, and what He promises to do for His children. You’ll see a God who hears, comes down to deliver, takes you by the hand, and leads you forward even when the future feels uncertain. As the class moves into Genesis, they walk through the promises of the Abrahamic covenant, not just as ancient history, but as living promises for ordinary, messy, faithful people. God promises blessing, protection, purpose, and multiplication, and He invites Abraham to become part of the work of blessing all the families of the earth, including a powerful rescue moment where Abraham pursues Lot like a type and shadow of the Savior. The episode ends in Genesis 15 with one of the most hope filled covenant scenes in scripture. Abraham asks “How will I know?” and God answers by making a covenant of grace, walking through the pieces Himself as if to say, I will keep My promises, and I will cover yours too. Our weekly scripture study class. You guys, cruising through the Old Testament. If you're just joining us, it's the first month. But we're cruised like a, I meant that as like a, you know,
0:23.9	this is great. We're in the first book. You know, and it's so good already. It just keeps getting better and
0:29.9	better and better and better. If you're new with us, we love the Old Testament. We love the scriptures. We love
0:34.6	Jesus. We point out things that we think are just uplifting and applicable and hope-giving in the scriptures.
0:40.8	And hopefully it's a good experience for you.
0:43.9	We are in some chapters today that are just winners.
0:47.2	We have a couple of things to put into these chapters.
0:50.5	First, we have a timeline piece.
0:52.0	If you don't know this, we made a timeline for the Old
0:54.8	Testament that has just got these cute picture icons so that you can see the whole story and you can
1:00.7	fill it out as you go or you can print out one that is all filled out. They're free. I loved
1:07.5	doing this with my seminary classes so much. I love showing my kids. I did it in my mission prep. I just think it's helpful for people to understand this is the storyline of the scriptures. And remember the stories. Yeah, that's why. It makes you proud because you see all of it. The pictures instantly remind you of the story you studied. And then you get to feel so proud that you know the Old Testament is so good. Yeah, I just, I love it. I love it. So today these pictures are the stars,
1:32.5	and this is what is going to be so cool about this lesson, is when God speaks to Abraham, who we're
1:40.3	going to meet today in today's chapters, he's going to be a new character for today,
1:50.7	but you probably already heard of him. When we meet Abraham, God is going to just pour out on him promises and show to us that he is a God of promises. In fact, we often associate promises with
1:57.7	the name of Abraham, because we'll use this phrase the promises made to Abraham,
2:02.0	Isaac, and Jacob. And we do that because in these chapters, we see God lay out what it means
2:10.1	for him to be your God. Like this is what I promise to you. We talk a lot about our promises to him, and these chapters are his promises to us.
2:22.9	When we are in a covenant relationship, we are so fast to say, that's a two-way promise.
