0:10.9	I'm Jensen Holt McNair. Have you ever felt helpless? It isn't a good feeling, not knowing what to do,
0:18.9	how to fix your problem or how to find relief. Many studies have
0:22.9	indicated that individuals who really need help often don't ask for it. They don't ask because
0:29.6	seeking help for their problem implies a certain amount of incompetence, dependence, neediness,
0:36.4	and powerlessness. And in the Western cultures of our
0:40.4	time, being powerless is never a desirable outcome. We live in the world of rugged individualism,
0:48.6	pull yourself up by your bootstraps, make a name for yourself. Everyone is trying to look strong, capable, and in control.
0:57.6	Everyone is fighting to make sure it looks like they have it all together. They can accomplish anything,
1:02.8	succeed, make their own way. Which is why the idea of being helpless is incredibly unattractive.
1:14.0	It's why when people find themselves in helpless situations, it's devastating. And the people of Samaria find themselves in a helpless situation
1:21.0	in Second Kings 6. They're surrounded, besieged by the king of Syria, and because of this, they have no food.
1:30.9	Things are dire.
1:32.3	They're desperate.
1:33.7	And we learn just how desperate things are as the king of Israel is walking the wall and a woman calls out to him.
1:41.7	Help me, my lord, the king.
1:48.1	And the king replied, if the Lord does not help you,
1:54.4	where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor, from the wine press? Then he asked her,
2:02.7	what's the matter? Believing that this woman is just asking him to give her food, the king replies helplessly.
2:06.7	If God hasn't given us food, then how can I give it to you?
2:12.5	The king admits here that he is powerless against the siege on his city.
2:16.3	He cannot provide. He is helpless.
