0:12.7	A few weeks ago, I was talking with one of our listeners, and he made a really astute observations.
0:18.8	These stories in First and Second Kings, they kind of get exhausting. It feels
0:23.3	like the same thing over and over again. God tries to reach his people. They turn to idols instead.
0:30.2	Then God's justice comes down. Now that cycle is really the story of First and Second Kings,
0:36.4	and I think it's there for a reason, not just
0:38.7	to bore us, and he wasn't saying he was bored. It's here to show us something about human
0:43.4	nature, about our own hearts. We all have the temptation to reject a good and loving God and
0:50.0	chase after idols in our lives, and in that, we're really no different than the ancient Israelites.
0:56.7	But I don't think that's the main point.
0:59.2	The main point of First and Second Kings is to tell us something about God.
1:03.8	Because after so many failures by the Israelites,
1:07.1	I think we're meant to ask a question,
1:09.3	why doesn't God just give up on Israel? Why does God keep
1:13.0	helping Israel? I hear a similar question from many people who live outside of families that are
1:19.4	going through dark times. For example, I think about a wonderful family that I knew. They had
1:23.5	three kiddos. They raised them in the church. They weren't perfect parents, but they were loving and generous and present.
1:30.3	Now, two of their kids ended up growing up and having families of their own and raising their
1:34.5	own kids in the faith.
1:36.0	But one of their kids struggled.
