A beginner’s guide to camping, plus David Mathis on honoring God with our fitness, and should you date coworkers?

Featured musical artist: Hollyn

Roundtable: Camping for Average People

Camping is a fun outdoor activity to do with friends and family, but if you don’t know what you’re doing it can be pretty intimidating. What should you pack? How do you cook food? Should you go with expert campers or strike out on your own? Our guests have experience pitching tents, sitting by campfires, and seeing the stars at night — but they all consider themselves “average” campers in ability and know-how. They’ll provide attainable tips for your next camping trip, especially if you’re a beginner.

Culture: A Theology of Exercise

Does God care if you’re hitting the gym? Or getting any exercise at all? According to David Mathis, part of us being equipped for service to God is having bodies that are able to do so. He shares scriptural reasoning for prioritizing movement as not only “taking care of your temple” but as an act of worship. He also tells the story of being convicted on this topic, how he started adding fitness to his life, and how staying active helps your body, brain and spirit.

Well, hey, everyone. Welcome to this week's episode of the boundless show. This is Lisa Anderson here with you. And again, we are squarely in August. We're in the summer. It's super fun. We've got a

0:23.6

great show for you. A little preview of what is coming up for our inbox. Is it true that you

0:29.3

shouldn't date your coworkers? Well, one of our HR experts, Marshanda Dixon, is going to answer that

0:35.4

question. And then for our culture segment, David Mathis

0:38.6

joins us to talk about his book, A Little Theology of Exercise, Enjoying Christ in Body and Soul.

0:45.3

So that is a very fun but also convicting conversation, and I hope that you will enjoy it.

0:51.8

Okay, here we are for our roundtable. And because we have got this weekend, August 8th in particular, is Global Sleep Under the Stars

1:02.0

Night.

1:02.4

That's kind of fun and very appropriate for summer.

1:05.7

Sorry, those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, we don't care about you right now.

1:10.0

But that said, we are going to

1:12.5

talk about camping and how the reason we have to talk about camping isn't because of

1:17.6

camping in general. We have to talk about camping for the average person because I was talking to a

1:23.2

friend of mine from church who was referencing a mutual friend. So my friend, she enjoys camping. And I'm

1:28.9

like, hey, that's cool. And I like to camp as well. Well, she was talking about how she and her

1:34.1

husband can't really camp with their friends because their friends are like, leave no trace,

1:38.9

go into weird wildernesses and don't eat anything or whatever you just pack in or I don't know and encounter very scary

1:47.2

wildlife and stuff. I don't know. And now they have like a baby and they brought their baby into

1:51.7

this and I'm just like you guys, I'm done with you. We're not even talking about that. So that's

1:55.7

really weird. So fortunately for a normal conversation about that, we've got a few folks. We've got

2:00.8

Gracie, one of our summer interns.

2:02.4

Hey, Gracie.
