Hi everybody.

This short segment is what we call for the good of the order.

It's something we used to do at the end of my sorority meetings, if you can believe that,

where someone would share something that they came across in the course of the week, a poem, a song lyric, a short story, that they found enormously helpful as they went about daily life.

And I wanted to pick up the thread because I am so often wowed by something I see in the world

that I want to bring back and hand off to you.

So every Friday we produce a short segment called for the good of the order.

Think of it like an audio greeting card, a thing to share with the people that you love around the country

who you don't get to see or talk to enough. A thing to discuss with the people you do see and talk to

on a more regular basis.

This is Kelly Corrigan Wonders for the good of the order. This week's go to is sharing a graduation speech I wrote about something that means so much to me and it'll be completely obvious to you who listen to this podcast because it's about the simple magic of asking questions.

So here's what's going to happen.

I'm going to spend the next little bit telling you the secret of life.

You're going to forget it by

dinner time and in 20 years you're going to call a classmate and say, hey, what did that

lady tell us again? You know, the one at graduation? Now that we've established expectations, let's start with three stories.

Number one, maybe five or six years ago, my husband was invited to a dinner in San Francisco

at this old fancy place that only lets in men. He shaved his face and

put on his only suit and headed into the city. After cocktails they were seated.

His first impression, and his second and his third, was that the guy next to him was a real

dud. He texted me under the table. I'll be home early. Some food was served, some wine

was poured. A man across the table mentioned something about going on safari.
