Summary

What if your New Year's resolutions weren't about losing weight or getting organized, but about becoming more curious, humble, and creative? Kelly reflects on why these three traits matter and how they're connected—curiosity as genuinely wondering instead of rushing to conclusions, humility as recognizing there's always more to learn and some things we'll never understand, and creativity as problem-solving with whatever you have in front of you. It's about resolutions that actually lay the groundwork for better days, better relationships, and better work. Check out our new 6-part series called Super Traits, made possible by a grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The first episode airs Jan 6th, 2026 and is Kelly's interview with NBA coach Steve Kerr on the topic of humility . This short segment is called a go-to.

0:14.1

It refers back to this crazy thing we used to do at the end of our sorority meetings in college.

0:18.2

If you can believe that, it was called for the good of the order.

0:20.6

And it was a way to share something that had emerged over the course of the week,

0:25.3

which really was a bit of learning or thinking or feeling that was to everyone's benefit to share.

0:33.3

And so that's all we'll do here. Every Friday, we release a go-to, and we encourage you to share it with friends around the country.

0:40.7

We know that people use it as a way to stay in touch with their best friends across the country

0:45.5

and, of course, far-flung family members, wherever they might be.

0:50.4

And as for your local nearest and dearest, consider it fodder for discussion over the

0:55.5

course of the weekend. This is Kelly Corrigan Wonders in our weekly segment called GoTo.

1:04.3

This week's go-to is really my contribution to the idea of New Year's resolutions,

1:15.7

which, you know, are wonderful that we still have energy to try, try again,

1:20.9

and probably ill-fated, unless you pin them on something bigger,

1:27.2

like be more curious, or bake a little creativity into every day, or practice intellectual humility whenever possible.

1:33.0

So I have been thinking about those three ideas, creativity, curiosity, and humility

1:38.4

because they keep coming up in conversations and books and podcasts, and I'm starting to think that

1:43.8

they're linked.

1:45.2

Curiosity, of course, is saying, I wonder and actually meaning it.

1:50.0

Not I wonder as a rhetorical advice, but actually really wondering, like sinking into

1:54.7

the act of wondering.

1:57.7

And you know it when you see it.
