So, some episodes we take deep dives into specific issues. Some are calls to action with groups out there in the field doing the hard work of democracy. And some are just answering the

question, what the hell is going on? And how do we make sense of all of this? Look, last week was a

mess. America essentially abandoned our international allies in favor of the autocrats of the world.

We embarrassed ourselves on the world stage, culminating with our president blaming Ukraine for

Russia's invasion of them, and then trying to shake them down to benefit himself.

We had the horrible tragedy of the hostage family in Israel, where the mother and her children

appeared to have been brutally murdered by Hamas. We had more plane

crashes. We fired all our park workers and aid workers. We found that our Republican leaders don't

care if we die of cancer or bird flu or tuberculosis or measles or if Cash Patel, who would be

happy to kill us all if the king asked is head of the FBI. In many ways, reading the news feels like you're in freefall. It's scary.

You can't get your bearings or find anything to hold on to. And watching legacy media or some

politician's response makes it feel like we're totally alone, like we're losing it while everyone

else pretends things are normal, which is why our guest Michael Steele was such a breath of fresh air last week.
