I'm sure they would have liked to know Derek Carr's decision before the draft, but sometimes life pans out this way and they had to draft accordingly with what they knew at the time.

What did we hear and how did the Saints move forward?

Let's focus in on the Saints right before the NFL draft because my understanding is the Saints

really did know that it was at least a possibility,

maybe even a high possibility that Derek Carr would not be the quarterback taking a snap

as they began the 20-25 season.

At that point when they made the draft pick, when they eventually, in the first round,

took a couple banks.

And then Taylor shook in the second round, a potential future franchise quarterback there.

They knew that Derek Carr had a significant shoulder injury.

They knew that it was a very real possibility that he would not play this season.

They knew he was considering surgery and that if surgery was necessary, he wouldn't play at all.

They didn't have a firm and final decision, but they planned accordingly.

And that all played out over the course of this weekend.
