We begin with the race to contain the haunt of virus.

Officials are now monitoring 18 people across 10 states,

and there's another potential case in Illinois,

not linked to that cruise ship.

Our Victor Akiendo is at the quarantine center in Omaha.

Hey Rebecca, I spoke with an emergency physician here at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

They tell me that everyone inside is stable.

This, as health officials in Illinois, are now investigating a potential

hantaviric case that is not related to the cruise ship.

That individual in Illinois resident is at home awaiting test results from the CDC after

experiencing mild symptoms of the hantavirus. It's believed they contracted the North American strain of the disease

after coming in contact with rodent droppings while cleaning. There are only roughly 30 cases of this strain a year and it is not passed from person to

person, unlike the Andy's virus, which was found on that Dutch cruise ship resulting in three

deaths and leaving health officials across the world tracking passengers.

Here in the US, officials currently monitoring 36 people, 18 across 10 states who either

returned home early from the cruise or traveled on a plane with a sick passenger.

None are showing signs of illness.

In addition to the 18 Americans who ended the cruise in Spain and went straight for evaluation,

the symptomatic passenger in a biocontainment unit

in Atlanta has tested negative for the virus.
