We do want to start the Memorial Day weekend, travel crush that is getting underway from the roads to the skies. Americans will be on the move in record numbers. And of course, our Whit Johns is at Newark Airport this morning. All right, so, hey, Whit, how's it looking? Hey, Rachel. Well, things are starting to pick up a little bit here. The holiday weekend, of course, marking the unofficial start to summer.

So the FAA is expecting a record number of travelers, and today will likely be the busiest day at the airport.

Nearly 54,000 planes will be in the sky.

AAA is predicting more than 3.6 million air travelers over the Memorial Day weekend.

And we just got new numbers from the TSA.

They expect to screen 18 million passengers and crew, and that includes those taking multiple

flights. And here at Newark Liberty International Airport, they're actually slashing the number

of flights following several incidents with air traffic control and those staffing shortages.

These cons are designed to free up airspace

and the hope to avoid excessive cancellations

and delays in the future.

But it's not just Newark yesterday at the Austin, Texas airport.

Flights had to be grounded because of more air traffic control staffing issues.

And now in a letter to Congress,

the CEOs of 10 major airlines are urging lawmakers to take immediate action.

And if you are going to travel this weekend, it's important to remember that real ID or some alternate form of identification that is official and recognizable like a passport.

The FAA says that for the most part, people have been following the rules.

About 93% of air travelers have been bringing that real ID. But an important reminder if you head out there, Rachel. Yeah, you don't want to be one of those people that's like waiting in the lines, gets all the way to the front of TSA and then finds out you don't have the real ID. All right.
