We do begin though with the big news. The war in Iran, the U.S. and Israel intensifying attacks as Iran fires back, fires back, striking U.S. allies and military bases across the Middle East,

killing at least four service members, others severely wounded. Chief White House correspondent,

Mary Bruce is in Washington with more. Hello, Mary. Hello. Well, we are now three days into

this campaign, but there's still a lot of unanswered questions about this war and what comes

next, even

as now at least four Americans have died.

Now we have now received the first briefing from top Pentagon officials.

The defense secretary arguing the U.S. is acting in response to quote 47 years of Iranian

belligerence.

But he didn't outline why now, what was the imminent threat, instead saying they were acting

to prevent Iran from using missiles and drones to create what he described as a, quote,

conventional shield for their nuclear ambitions. And he did not clarify what exactly comes next.

Trump has long promised to the American people no new wars that he would get out of the business of regime

change with the Supreme Leader now dead. The administration is saying that what comes next

is largely up to the Iranian people, that the U.S. isn't going to get into nation building.

But the President hasn't said who he thinks should lead Iran, and he's actually suggested

that the remaining leaders may continue

to be in charge, Will. And Mary, how long is this campaign expected to go on? Yeah, it's a very good

question. Well, President Trump has said this operation could continue for four to five weeks,

but the defense secretary just scoffed at putting any timeline on this. He is not putting any definitive time

on it. Instead, he is leaving this open-ended for now. And he notably is not ruling out the possibility
