Welcome to the Commune podcast. My name is Jeff Krasno. Okay, so today I'm diving deep on a chemical that is in the headlines.

And despite never having seen it or touched it, almost everyone carries this particular chemical in their bodies.

And I'm talking about glyphosate.

So I've done an array of interviews about glyphosate, primarily with

Zach Bush and with Kelly Ryerson, aka glyphosate girl. And we've also addressed it in several

of our courses on regenerative agriculture on the commune course platform. So you can find out more

But today, I want to provide a structured primer on glybosate, give you some foundational knowledge

about this chemical, because recently this herbicide has surged back into the news cycle.

The Trump administration recently issued an executive action

promoting expanded agricultural chemical use, including glyphosate,

in the name of food independence,

while simultaneously supporting legal arguments that could shield Bayer,

the owner of Monsanto, and producer of Roundup,

from large categories of lawsuits.

To add to the drama, Robert Kennedy Jr., the HHS secretary defended the order,

and this is notable as Secretary Kennedy has been a long-time critic of glyphosate.

He was a lawyer on the winning legal team in the landmark Roundup Cancer case.

In 2018, a California jury awarded $289 million to groundskeeper Dwayne Lee Johnson, finding

Monsanto failed to warn about cancer risks, and Bobby Kennedy was one of Johnson's attorneys.

So his support of this executive action has caused fissures in the health-focused Maha movement.
