0:17.3	we hear in the word of God. One of the reasons the Apostle Peter wrote First Peter was to encourage First

0:34.4	to even greater suffering. But how Peter handles this word of encouragement is not

0:50.0	and helping us to understand the Apostle Peter's first letter from his brand new series
0:55.2	Sojones and Exiles. And as we've heard already, it's a letter to help us in our believing,
1:02.0	to direct us in our doing, and to comfort us in our doing and to comfort us in our suffering. Although most of
1:06.8	us don't experience persecution like Peter's original readers did, like them we are in the minority now and suffering is part of the
1:15.8	Christian life. So here's Dr Ferguson on the glory in our grief.
1:20.4	Now in our first study we were grief.
1:23.0	Now in our first study we were looking just at the first two verses of the first letter of the
1:28.4	Apostle Peter, seeing him identify himself and also thinking about the grace that had been shown to these Christians in modern Turkey as we would say nowadays of the wonder of their salvation, a divine conspiracy to bring them to faith in Jesus Christ.
1:48.0	And now he begins his letter proper and the theme of the verses that begin in number three and end in verse
1:56.5	number 12 is the glorious salvation that is ours in Jesus Christ.
2:03.6	Martin Luther who loved this letter says a very interesting thing about it.
2:08.8	He says this letter contains all you need to know. All you need to know in a letter that you can probably read in about 20 minutes.
2:19.0	And as we saw last time, a later writer, Archbishop Robert Leighton, described this letter as establishing
2:26.3	Christians in believing, in directing them, in doing, and comforting them in suffering.
