presence of the Blessed sacrament. So let's begin our meditation in the name of the Father and

the Son and the Holy Spirit. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Today we meditate on the way in which Jesus invites us to give the way he gives generously in almsgiving, prayer and fasting. As the Lord said, give and there will be gifts for you, a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running

over will be put into your lap, because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back.

Why does Jesus want us to give away money, fast and pray?

Because God alone satisfies. There is nothing we can buy, nothing we can put in our

mouth, and no way we can spend our time that will satisfy our hunger and thirst for God.

Nothing but God alone satisfies.

And we can receive God immediately by prayer, even if we do not sense it, because the presence of God goes deeper than the level of the senses.

But to receive God more completely, we need to break our addictions. We need to
