Good morning David. This is a bit of a throwback to our Giro

Podding from a couple of years ago. I woke up this morning and suddenly remembered

the dream that I had last night which was super strange. It was a random extra

rest day in the Giro d'Italia and the British National Championship road race

was being held and he's the thing much to my surprise I found myself lining up

on the start line. I thought I was there originally to just present the

television coverage but no I was riding for Sudal Quickstep. I was rider 21 in

the British National Championship on this extra rest day at the Giro in the

pouring rain somewhere in the north of England and I set off. I was super

nervous. I set off as a circuit racer and I was instantly dropped within the

first few kilometers but it was quite a tight circuit race and when I was

lapped by the field this time it eased off a bit and I was able to just hold

the wheels a little bit next time around but here's the thing I had with me the

organizers to give me a little kitten to hold as I rode just to keep me warm

and happy and Garant Thomas was in the race. Despite the fact that he's got two

three days left at the Giro and I remember talking to him in the bunch he

seemed really interested in my little kitten particularly. I said if you got

cats and he said yeah I've got three at home and I said that's interesting but

what you're doing here anyway because you've got two mountain days and then the

final stage of the Giro to win and you're so close to winning it and he said

yeah I know but the sponsors my sponsors wanted me to be present at the road

racetrack but I had no choice so they helicoptered me off the Giro on this
