Summary

Podcasting has really started to become a powerful medium to share information, mainly because it gives a level of autonomy and freedom that other platforms - such as video or written sources - don’t really offer. While the latter ones need your full and undivided attention, podcasts can be consumed while you’re at the gym, running errands or cleaning your house.

These are some of the reasons why the podcast industry has seen such a boom in the past few years. Every day, around 300 new podcasts are being uploaded to Apple Podcast. That’s a ton of podcasts when you think about it!

But who came up with the idea of podcasts? Why should you consider doing your own podcast? And probably one of the most important questions is, what are the steps involved in producing one?

In today’s episode, my guest has all the answers. I discuss with Ginni the unseen face of podcasts, and if you’re curious what it takes to start one of your own, you’re in luck! She shares a lot of information that was even new to me, although we’re now at our 30th episode.

Ginni Saraswati is an award-winning journalist and the founder and CEO of Ginni Media – a podcast producing company based in New York. She lived most of her life in Australia, where she began a career in radio – for 10 years on and off, she was on a morning show on a station called, Joy 94.9 FM. A series of events led her, in 2015, to starting her own podcast, The Ginni Show. The success of the show made people wonder how she does it, and they started asking for her advice. That’s when Ginni decided she could make a career out of this passion of hers, and since then, she’s helped countless people successfully start their own podcasts – including me.

So, if you’re looking to start a podcast, no matter how old you are, listen to Episode 30 of Rejuvenaging, to learn some tricks of the trade from a person who lives and breathes podcasts every day.

Questions I ask:

  • How did podcasting evolve and when did it become something? (03:30)
  • Can you tell us a bit about your own journey? (06:38)
  • Who should become a podcaster? (11:33)
  •  How do you know when and if you need somebody on the production end of a podcast? (14:45)
  • What do you do with regard to self-care? (19:25)
  • What about your own podcast – The Ginni Show? (29:50)

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The questions you need to ask yourself before considering starting a podcast. (12:33)
  • What pod fade is and how you can avoid it. (16:02)
  • The to-do list for releasing each episode of your podcast. (17:08)
  • The importance of putting yourself first. (22:19)
  • How doing a podcast when you’re in the older age range helps you fight loneliness. (26:07)
