Vancouver's Gilbert Paul Jordan emerged in the mid-20th century as a violent predator

whose alcoholism and criminal impulses escalated early in life. By his teens, he was already

a heavy drinker and petty criminal, haunting Vancouver's downtown east side.

In 1961, he was caught with a five-year-old indigenous girl in the car, and not long after,

he abducted and raped a woman, but both times charges collapsed and he walked free.

Those early escapes from justice foreshadowed a chilling pattern that would let him continue hunting vulnerable women for decades.
