| 0:06.2 | Welcome back. This is the Big Blue Banter New York Giants Football Podcast. I'm Dan Schneier. |
| 0:12.3 | Join, as always, my co-host, Nick Falado. It's a beautiful, well, somewhat beautiful Sunday evening in northern New Jersey, western northern New Jersey, whatever you want to |
| 0:23.1 | call this area of the country. And we want to talk some running backs with you tonight. It's time to |
| 0:28.4 | break down the giant's depth chart by position position. Those of you who were with us last |
| 0:33.8 | offseason know that what we'd like to do during this dead, dead time. And it will be dead from a content standpoint as far as what goes on on the field and with the current roster until July 27th, when training camp resumes. But until then, we got a lot planned, but one of the things we're going to do is break down every position for a positional depth chart overview. We're starting tonight with the running backs, the quarterbacks. |
| 0:55.8 | I know everybody wants to hear the quarterbacks. |
| 0:57.1 | It's going to come later. We're going to have a guest on. The same one we had last year, Mark Schofield. I know you guys love that pod. Easily one of our best of the year every year. But for now, we're going to break down the running backs, just Nick and myself. and I'm excited to talk about this position. |
| 0:51.8 | I'm excited to talk about Sequan Barclay in this offense, |
| 0:54.5 | and you should be excited. |
| 0:56.5 | Saquan Barclay's on the roster. There's a chance |
| 1:15.7 | he returns to 100%. It's not a bad chance. There's a really good chance. Come back from the ACL, |
| 1:19.9 | it happens all the time. Now we're seeing athletes come back from the Achilles, which is crazy. |
| 1:23.7 | Like, Emmanuel Sanders coming back at that advanced age from the Achilles was wild. So there's obviously advancements in health. So I'm excited, man. So let's dive right into the position. But before we do that, Nick, I want to hear how you're going this weekend. And just in general, your thoughts on running backs for the Giants heading into 2021. I think the thoughts of my running backs first will start out. You know, I'm excited about the position. |
| 1:44.7 | You can tell it, the Giants. We'll get into it a little bit. You know, put a priority on adding to this position, which I don't know what that says about Seekuaan Barclay through his development. I just think they realize, you know, D.L. Lewis players like that weren't exactly the answer when someone like Seekwant Barclay goes down. but as for my weekend it's been quite lovely. |
| 1:42.4 | I spent it in Jersey, not in Denver this time, |
| 1:44.2 | but it's been quite lovely. I spent it in Jersey, not in Denver this time. But it's been rather cool. I'm excited for the summer and hopefully everybody can be safe and have a wonderful summer and go down to the beach and enjoy the Jersey shores. Yeah, things are reopening in Jersey. Good times to be had down there and across the country. Listen, everybody, if you get a chance to travel, do so. I'm going to hopefully be doing so as well a little bit later this month. But until then, we're talking Giants football with you. And let's start with kind of the overview of the position. One thing that I'm thinking about, Nick, or that crossed my mind as I went through and started to do my research for this position for our podcast was just |
| 2:35.5 | I think the Giants did a really good job. Gettelman and his entire team. Judge, whoever you |
| 2:41.3 | give whoever you want to give credit, pet it, whoever you deem responsible, I think it's all of them, |
| 2:46.5 | but specifically Gettleman of accumulating talent at a cheap cost. |
| 2:51.1 | I do really like what I see from Corey Clement. We're going to get to more of that, so I'm not going to tip off any of that. But I like the idea of him on this roster, and I think he's extremely underrated. And I really like what I've seen in short spurts from Armstead. But more importantly, with both guys, they cost nothing. You didn't have to invest a draft pick. You didn't have to invest any kind of contract that has any impact really at all on your cap you didn't have to guarantee years to a player who you don't know if you can trust in addition to that you also bring in booker and so i don't like the booker deal on the surface i get it but i don't think it's horrible when you just group all three of these in and you you kind of give them all one total price for the three. You get three talented backs, I think, here for the price of around six, seven, eight million, nothing too much more than that. And I just think they did a good job of not overreacting to what they saw last season, because quite clearly, Nick, I think they didn't like having Galman and Lewis as the two backs behind Barclay because ultimately what it led to is a tipped, you're tipping off your offense. Defense is new. When Galman was in the game, it's most likely going to be a run. When Dionne Lewis is in the game, it's most likely not going to be a run. And I think that's the motivation behind the Booker deal, but I think you see that with a lot of the talent they've acquired this offseason. |
| 3:59.2 | Absolutely, Dan. |
