Until... Through the early 21st century, the big horror franchises had mainly consisted of slashes and torture paunts

with the sore, hostile and final destination movies

dominating the box office. However, with paranormal activity in 2007, everything changed.

Director O'Rang Peli made a tiny budget supernatural horror movie in his own house,

filmed mostly in one bedroom, and the film not only became one of the biggest grossing horror movies of all time,

it not only sparked a slew of sequels and imitators, it also popularized a brand new dominant

sub-genre of horror invented by the Blair Witch 10 years earlier

known today as found footage.
