The ghost story is as old as time itself. As human beings we're all afraid of the

unknown and there's nothing more uncertain than what happens to us after we die.

Perhaps this is why over thousands of years the ghost story has been so popular, from stories

told around campfires to classic literature and theatre to radio and television plays and of

course in cinema.

In horror cinema, many sub-jomres such as the Slasher movie or the zombie movie tend to come and go.

They boom and they decline. But what's interesting about ghost stories on

film is that they are always with us, quiet, omnipresent in the background, ready to send

chills down our spines no matter what age, generation or nationality.

But is there more to the ghost story than just creaky floorboards and clanking chains?

Over the next few months we'll be exploring the evolution of ghosts in horror cinema,

not just from decade to decade, but around the world,

delving into the ghost stories of Gothic Britain, of 80s Reagan America, of war-torn Iran, and of course
