Oklahoma State University's 1996 season was sort of a mediocre season.

They had a mediocre quarterback. The quarterback was sort of kind of famous because he was like a great nephew of

Lyndon B. Johnson. His name was Randy Johnson. But he was an okay quarterback. But in the final

game of the season against Oklahoma University,

it was sort of their Civil War game.

They were down by six points.

They were 80 yards from the goal line, and they only had like three seconds to play.

And it was looking pretty bleak.

But it was the last play of the seniors, their last play of their season, their life of football players and stuff.

So the coach just kind of sent word into the quarterback, hey, you just make the call.

Whatever play you want to do, go for it.

And so the quarterback, Randy Johnson, called play number 13, which shocked everybody because it was a play that was a trick

play, one of those kind of trick plays, not a typical football play. And not only was it a trick play,

but they tried it in practice and it never worked in practice. Like they never got it to work.

So the fact that he tried this was shocking. So they snapped the ball and sure enough this trick play worked and they ran it

all the way down the field, scored a touchdown and won the game. It was kind of big thing. Well,

the coach comes running up and hugs Randy Johnson. It says, man, that was awesome. What in the world

made you choose play 13? And the quarterback said, well, I was looking at the seniors in the huddle.

There was a couple guys, you know, the senior number seven and number eight.

And I just added those two numbers together.

And the coach said, Randy, seven and eight don't equal 13.

And he said, and Randy thought for a moment and answered back with a smirk, you're right, coach.
