Summary
Back in the "olden days," people shook hands when they made agreements. They called them "handshake agreements."
Your word was your bond. Communities were so small that if you didn't honor your agreement, your name would become muddied and you'd be deemed unreliable and untrustworthy.
Keeping your word was tied to your ability to secure goods, land, loans, and pretty much anything of value.
When I was a street hustler, you couldn't exactly make offers and have contracts written up.
It was pretty much understood that if you didn't deliver the goods, it was a good old fashioned ass whippin' that would be delivered to you. People wouldn't do business with you and your supply would dry up. Your street cred was at risk.
Fast-forward to going legit in business. I learned the hard way you couldn't just take someone's word for it.
If someone wanted to do business with me, I had them text or email the terms of what they would be doing for my company be it marketing, sales, or backend fulfillment and I would craft a document and send it for e-signatures.
I had to do this because here's what I learned...........you give people a chance to fuck you over, 9 out of 10 times they do it because of ignorance, laziness, or they're down right grifters.
Take it from me........get everything in writing.
We're only as good as the agreements we make, but even better when we keep them.

| 0:27.8 | in this business world is that a motherfucker's word ain't shit. Ain't shit. You know, when I first |
| 0:33.5 | got into business, I thought, because I'm a person of responsibility, integrity, I just assume, since I'm that way, everybody else that way too. You know, you ever made that mistake? You assume since you're a certain way, probably everybody's that way because it's probably the right way to be, but then you realize a lot of people ain't right. I would have people promise me stuff in business. Hey, I'm going to get you a hundred leads. I'm going to get you |
| 0:54.5 | this, that, and the other. And they would tell me shit. Hey, I'd give me, you know, loan money to me and I'm going to repay you here, there and there. And I used to believe people. I used to just take their word. You know, in the streets, if I'm doing a drug deal with you, we can't put a contract together, man. that's evidence. In prison, if I'm doing a deal with you, man, we operate on a handshake or an ass whipping. That was just how I live my whole life. I come out here in the business world and these trust fund kids don't operate this way. And so now I have a rule and I live by this rule. And I highly recommend that you implement, especially if you're a business owner, you implement this rule too. I don't let people just talk to me. And what I mean by that is if we're doing business, you can't just tell me what you're going to do. You have to put it in writing. I have everybody text me or email me exactly what they're going to do, exactly what the benefit for me is, exactly what results I can expect. I'm going to |
| 1:44.8 | get everything in writing because if I got to come back to your ass in the future, I don't want to hear you say, well, I didn't say that. We didn't promise that. I'm going to get it all in writing. I have everybody text me. Don't tell me what you're going to do. Text me. And so then when you text me, I got a list of everything you're going to do. |
| 1:59.1 | I can check it off and make sure you've done it and we can both agree that it was in writing. |
| 2:02.9 | I've been operating this way for the last nine years and I haven't had a lot of discrepancies in the last nine years because I made people send it to me in writing. I want it in writing. So A, we can represent in the future. B, there's a recorded history of it and C, if you decide to go back on your word, we've got it in writing. So, hey, maybe you still |
| 2:21.3 | go back on your word, we've got it in writing. So, hey, maybe you still go back on your word, but at least we know that you went back on your word because we have the situation in writing. Our grandparents always told me, get everything in writing and I never really thought much about it. But now I realized they had experienced the same things that we experience as entrepreneurs. |
| 2:35.0 | People say shit and not have any intention of backing up what they say. So get it written down. |
| 2:40.9 | It's a game changer for you. Help you keep records. And it clears up the whole conversation because |
| 2:45.5 | you can always go back and relate and use reference for what was actually written. And there's no |
| 2:50.3 | need to argue. It's right there in words |
