| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the scriptures are real podcast. |
| 0:11.3 | This is the podcast where we talk about elements of the scriptures that have become real to us because we believe the more they're real, the more we can draw out of them, and we need all the help we can get. |
| 0:20.9 | I'm your host, Kerry Mielstein, and I'm thrilled to have with me today a returning guest and colleague and good friend of mine, George Pierce. |
| 0:28.0 | George is also a professor of ancient scripture at BYU, and he is, he directs, well, he has participated in many excavations in Israel and has studied at UCLA, |
| 0:48.2 | so he has a PhD from the same department and place that I do, but with a slightly different emphasis, although we had |
| 0:54.9 | overlapping emphasis since we both did archaeology and we both did Hebrew Bible. But he also |
| 1:02.9 | went to Wheaton. I'll let him tell you what that is and so on, and is just a fantastic guy. |

| 1:50.5 | So he always used to joke that DuPage County because of the number of Christian publishers |
| 1:54.4 | to churches, Wheaton College, and others, it's sort of the Vatican of evangelicalism in a way. |
| 2:00.6 | But I was privileged to go there. And you were |
| 2:04.5 | evangelical at the time? Yeah. So I was evangelical at the time. I went to what was called |
| 2:08.9 | College Church, even though it's not associated with the college. It's literally across the street, |
| 2:13.0 | college church. And most of the archaeology department went to college church as well. So we all saw |
| 2:19.2 | each other on Sundays. And it was just a good experience. Both my professors were Harvard trained. |
| 2:25.2 | And so I always joke that I got a Harvard education at a Wheaton price, which is really nice to do. |
