It's February 1977 in a Chinese restaurant near San An Salmo, California.

32-year-old George Lucas sits at a table with a select group of friends and his wife Marsha,

whose eyes are red from crying.

He's anxious and not in the mood to eat.

George has just screened a rough cut of his new film Star Wars to the group,

which includes fellow filmmaker Brian Dupalma.

It was a disaster.

Even Marsha, his wife, admitted to a girlfriend, the film looked awful.

The mood at these after parties is usually upbeat, but this time things are different.

No one is quite sure what to say to their dear friend George,

who has spent four years working on what looks to be a flop.

What there is one person who knows exactly what to say, Brian Dupalma.

The movie director is currently enjoying box office and critical acclaim for his latest film Carrie,

and he's never shy about giving his opinion.

George respects Dupalma, but his bluntness takes Lucas by surprise.

George, what's all this force crap?

It's a mystical thing, Brian. It doesn't need explaining.

In the blood, where's the blood when they shoot people?

Oh, we can't have blood. It's a film for kids.
