Okay, we'll go ahead and get started.

When we get started in just a moment, we will be picking up in Genesis chapter 25.

And we don't need to do a ton of recap this time because we kind of did the whole story of Isaac and Rebecca last time

like literally the whole thing pretty much

not the beginning in the sense of his birth but the beginning in the sense of

sort of the story of his adulthood, which was essentially the story of him meeting,

marrying, and his relationship with Rebecca, his wife.

So when we get into this chapter, chapter 25 at the beginning, we're going to have

sort of an epilogue concerning Abraham, the beginning we're going to have sort of an epilogue concerning

Abraham and then we're going to go into the beginning of Isaac and Rebecca's children

Jacob and Esau so even though we're used to we always always hear Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,

in terms of the distribution of material, Isaac kind of gets short shrift.

But as we talked about last time, part of that is because Isaac is presented as sort of this ideal figure with a kind of idyllic life, right?

He doesn't have, we saw in Abraham there was definitely this growth and learning curve

over the course of his life and his relationship with Sarah and all of these things whereas Isaac seems to have

sort of learned the lessons of his father right he's the only one of these figures here

in the patriarchal narratives who isn't practicing any kind of polygamy, right?

He's married to one wife, right?

This is presented as good.
