This is CBS I on the world. I'm John Batchel. The hostages, taken 501 days ago by the gangsters of Hamas. Many of them are deceased. There are living hostages, we believe, and we're on the eve of more

released hostages from the Hamas to the IDF in exchange for prisoners held by the Israel,

especially prisoners associated with Shalid. I welcome Jonathan Shanzer of the Executive Director of the Foundation

for Defense of Democracies because I can't hope to figure this out. There's so many families,

there's so many hopes, their prayers, their bodies. It's all going in different directions.

Jonathan, a very good evening to you. Thank you for this. The last time we talked, there was an ultimatum from BB Netanyahu that you either release every living hostage on Saturday or else. I believe the President of the United States augmented that by saying the usual Haiti's to pay. What happened next was it appeared that Hamas took a step backwards, which is

unusual. It appeared that there were hostages released, but not all the living hostages. It says three.

That's the last time I could follow this. Where is the negotiation now? Good evening to you, Jonathan.

Good evening, John. Yeah, I think what we saw from Donald Trump,

I reinforced the now famous way of describing him put forth by Selena Zito, the journalist who

covered Trump world and the president himself. And she said that we should all take Trump seriously,

but not literally.

And so when I look back at over the last week, at one point it looked like Hamas and its patrons

were digging in their heels and refusing to release even a single hostage.

Trump comes in, warns everybody that there will be held to pay.

And that immediately changes their

mind. You begin to see them redouble their efforts, and eventually we watch three more

Israeli hostages released. This was the good news. I think that if we want to add perhaps

more good news, it's that we will see additional hostages,

or perhaps hostage bodies released in subsequent phases of deal, of the first of this deal.

Watching right now is a very interesting dynamic in Israel.
